When you are added to a Cochrane Review as an author, you will gain access to the review. To check the review in and out, you need to download/access RevMan and get access to Archie and Editorial Manager (via your Cochrane Account).

You will need to download Review Manager (RevMan) Desktop (RevMan 5.4.1) or ensure you can access RevMan Web. RevMan is the software used for preparing and maintaining Cochrane reviews (RevMan Portal).

RevMan 5.4.1 is the latest desktop version (RevMan 5.3 is no longer functional) for authors who need to import data from Covidence or complete a review type that is not yet supported in Revman Web. This program is available for download here. When you install RevMan 5.4, you need to enter your Cochrane username and password to connect with the server. A Tutorial for new users is available from the RevMan 5 Help file. If you are new to RevMan, we recommend that you work through this tutorial before beginning work on your review. If you are using RevMan 5.4, this locks the review and prevents anyone else from checking out the review (they can still view the draft you have checked out and download a copy, but they will not be able to check out that version). Only you will be able to check in the review again. Checking in the review creates a draft that is viewable at any time and becomes the latest draft available to review authors. This process is explained in the RevMan tutorial. If you check out the review using RevMan Web, multiple authors can work on the review simultaneously. You can read more about this feature here: -kb/working-with-the-review/how-to-work-concurrently-on-the-review-in-revman-web.

Now you need to download Crouton, the tool that allows you to install Linux distros on your Chrome OS device. Head to the Crouton GitHub page and click on the link labelled Chromium OS Universal Chroot Environment. By default, this should end up in your Downloads folder.

Type 'sudo sh -e /Downloads/crouton -t unity-desktop' and press enter. Alternatively, replace 'unity-desktop' with another distro of choice if you'd prefer. Crouton will download and install all the files for the distro you selected. Depending on which distro you picked, this could take a while; Unity Desktop is roughly 1.1GB, for example. We shall now refer to this OS as a Chroot, which is the official term for the OS that Crouton creates, running alongside Chrome OS

One of the strengths of R is its flexibility when creating figures. The code below shows how the figure can be recreated using a combination of the forest() function from metafor and using functions such as text() and points() to add additional elements to the figure in the same style as done in the RevMan forest plot. Note that it takes a bit of work to recreate the figure, although some parts are really optional (the goal here was to recreate the figure as closely as possible, except for a few minor deviations in terms of the alignment of the elements and leaving the points in black instead of making them blue). Also note that one really needs to save the figure to a file for it to look right. The figure below was saved with png(filename="forest_plot_revman.png", res=350, width=3196, height=1648).

Review Manager 5 (RevMan 5) was the software used for preparing andmaintaining Cochrane reviews( -learning/core-software/revman).RevMan 5 includes the ability to write systematic reviews ofinterventions, diagnostic test accuracy reviews, methodologyreviews and overviews of reviews.

When I unlock the lock in the security and privacy area, it asks me for my password to unlock security and privacy. I dont have a password set up, I click unlock and it unlocks it for a half a second then relocks it back. How do i get it to unlock security and privacy arrows so I can download from anywhere? thanks!

"I'm sorry to advise that it's not possible to download a copy of your review while it's in the editorial phase. If you need a copy of the current version of the review urgently, and don't have one saved locally, please contact your editor at your Cochrane Review Group."
