Buy Wildcard Ssl

I have an existing SSL wildcard certificate at GoDaddy that expires in a few months. Traditionally we would renew this certificate and, in doing so, begin the countdown towards the existing certificate becoming invalid (72 hours according to the rep on the phone).

If you go through Comodo Wildcard SSL Certificate, after quick verification process they will issue your certificate within hours. Comodo also giving advantage of unlimited server licensing, so you can use your wildcard SSL Certificate on any number of servers. Renewal of Wildcard SSL Certificate also completes in hours.

Strong encryption is another requirement of any online website, and this wildcard certificate will not disappoint SSL purchasers. All transactions on your website will be encoded with 256-bit encryption that makes data spying impossible, and users can enjoy browsing on the website without any unwillingness or risk. As a result, the overall ROI will increase in the long run, and customers would love to visit your website frequently to purchase products or services.

AlphaSSL Wildcard Certificates are recognized by all popular browsers and mobile devices where wildcard technology is supported. Our Certificates are issued from the 2048 bit GlobalSign Root Certificate - one of the longest operating and most trusted Authorities in the world. You will also receive 256 bit encryption strength between your customer and your website - the strongest in use today.

The Wildcard SSL certificate is a unique SSL/TLS provision that features a so-called wildcard character (asterisk/* or question mark/?) in the domain name field. Due to this, Wildcard certificates can be used to secure multiple sub-domains simultaneously.

My question is, what prevents me from simply buying a normal single certificate and then putting *.example.com in the CSR ? Is that even possible ? Or, do SSL venders have checks in place to know the difference between an actual sub-domain and a wildcard/* sub-domain.

If you purchase a certificate from a CA for a hostname like www.example.com (as the Common Name in the Subject field of the certificate), most CA's will also include the domain name example.com in the Subject Alternate Name field, so that the certificate will work for both www.example.com and example.com. But, that's usually the extent of it. If you want to also secure another hostname, such as mail.example.com, you'll need to purchase another certificate for this hostname, or purchase a wildcard certificate.

A wildcard SSL certificate typically costs more than a multi-domain certificate; however, if you have a dynamic app that will have an ever-growing number of subdomains, a wildcard certificate will likely be more cost efficient.

If you want a wildcard SSL certificate to use on multiple apps that each have their own subdomain, copy the SSL key from the app where you generated the key and CSR used to buy your wildcard certificate.

  • Flexibility: Through a single Wildcard Certificate you can secure virtually unlimited subdomains. One wildcard certificate could cover the comodogroup.com domain, as well as all associated subdomains such as secure.comodogroup.com, products.comodogroup.com, login.comodogroup.com, etc.

  • Security: Wildcard SSL Certificates are 2048-bit ready, securing you and your customers now and for the next 20 years. Wildcard SSL Certificates include traditional business validation. These certificates are more scalable, cost-effective and simple than traditional certificates for several companies.

As with single-name certificates, wildcard SSL certificates encrypt data via a set of keys. This includes a public key that is stored on the digital certificate and a private key that is kept on your server. However, with a wildcard certificate, you can copy the private key and upload it to as many servers as you wish.

Wildcard SSL certificates are supported by nearly every type of web browser and device, including both mobiles and desktop computers. Additionally, wildcard SSL certificates come with an unlimited server license policy and an unlimited re-issuance policy. This means you can secure your site on an as many servers as necessary, and reissue the certificate as many times as you want.

Depending on your hosting provider and plan, you might be able to purchase a wildcard certificate through them as well. For example, some hosting companies will work with a preferred SSL partner, and offer wildcard certificates as a premium add-on.

The first step is to purchase your SSL certificate. As we mentioned earlier, there are a variety of SSL providers to choose from that offer wildcard certificates. The best solution will depend largely on your specific needs and budget.

If you carefully executed the aforementioned steps, you should now have a wildcard SSL certificate successfully installed on your WordPress site. However, to confirm that everything went as it should, you might want to use the SSL Checker tool by About SSL:

As we discussed in this post, using a wildcard SSL certificate can help you save both time and money, by protecting an unlimited number of subdomains on a single certificate. You can install one on your site in four simple steps:

Purchase and Install a wildcard subdomain SSL Certificate for production! We'll use xip.io to reach our Vagrant server using a domain name, rather than the direct IP address, using "localhost" or editing our /etc/hosts file.

Just FYI, wildcard certs are not valid for SIP. However, they usually work ok. Funny thing is that pjsip acting as a client will reject a remote server with a wildcard cert unless you turn off validation. Better not to use them, and instead use individual or multi-name certs.

To install a standard Let's Encrypt SSL certificate for websites that are hosted in a Lightsail instance with a Bitnami stack, use Bitnami's bncert-tool. Examples of these instance blueprints include WordPress, LAMP, Magento, and MEAN. If you have a different instance blueprint or want to install a wildcard certificate (for example, *.example.com), then see one of the following: 041b061a72
